Wendell Finkleworth
No. 47 in the Cobblestone Circle Series
Sold

Wendell Finkleworth is bouncing off the walls of his shop today.   He can sit only a few minutes at a task before he is up and on to something else.   This is very unusual for Wendell, who typically enjoys patiently attending to the intricate details of his marvelous toys.   But today his heart is so full of joy that he cannot think of anything but the news their daughter shared this morning ~ he and his wife Gretchen are going to be grandparents!

Aside from a momentary qualm about being too young to be a grandfather, Wendell is beaming.   He has had the pleasure of providing playthings for the village for many years, but to now have the chance to make toys for his own grandchild ~ well, that is going to be something special.   And part of his bouncing around The Toymaker Shop today has a lot to do with him trying to figure out what that first gift should be.   Everything he sees in the shop that he has made is for toddlers and older children, not for an new infant.   There are of course the soft cuddlies that his wife creates, but he wants to make something himself for the child.

Perhaps something to decorate the nursery ~ something to hang in a corner of the room where the new baby will see it everyday laying in its crib before drifting off to sleep.   Perhaps a marionette with smiling eyes and a soft smile.   Yes ~ that’s it!

He must get started on it right away.   But just as he begins to draw the plans for this new toy, he hears Gretchen calling to him from where she’s been rustling about in the back of the shop.   What can she be up to now?

Wendell is made from sassy long pile mini bear fabric. His tail is tan leather cording and he measures barely 3 inches to the top of his head.   Wendell clothing was inspired by a photograph of an old German toymaker.   No detail has been overlooked while assembling this outfit.   His dusty rose knickers and plaid shirt are protected by buttoned tan spats and sleeve garters.   A tan pocketed apron that ties in the back has three playful buttons sewn on the front.  And to complete the look ~ a pair of wired spectacles to enable Wendell to see the fine detailing of his work.

Many, many hours of wearing magnifying glasses, working with teeny drill bits and saws and minute paint brushes and tweezers went into creating this lovely collection of miniature toys and charming little trinkets.   The toy cabinet that will come with Wendell has been painted a soft beige with gold accents on the trim and door handles.   It is 4 inches tall and 4 inches wide.   The doors can open and close as you wish.   A set of one dozen toys will also be included with this auction.
