Nathaniel Shrewsbury
No. 43 in the Cobblestone Circle Series

“ Mommy, why is that silly man wearing
his church clothes at the beach? ”

Now there’s a comment you don’t hear every day.   But true enough, Nathaniel Shrewsbury is walking along the shore ~ and (sigh) he is wearing a suit.   It would be easy to say that he is dressed this way only because he is on his lunch break from the Cobblestone Savings Bank, but believe it or not, Nathaniel is usually in a suit.

I think it has to do with his liking things to be in order ~ which
of course is a wonderful quality in a bank manager.   But it is not such an easy thing to live with everyday.   Just ask his wife.
While she tends more towards the arts and embraces life with an almost whimsical style, Nathaniel enjoys mathematics and finds comfort in the predictability of things.

Take this seashell he just picked up for his collection.  It was formed over a long period of time ~ bit by bit everyday ~ growing into such an intricate pattern.   He chuckles as he remembers the first time he explained the geometry of seashells to her.   She called it pretty!   And although he had never heard anyone express it quite that way ~ she was absolutely right ~ there is a beauty to the rhythms of nature.

So while on the surface the Shrewsburys appear to be an odd match, their appreciation of small details, and their willingness to see through each others eyes, make them a great pair.

He’ll have to remember to tell her that someone called him silly today ~ she’ll like that!

~ SOLD ~
August 2008

Nathaniel is made from sassy long pile mini bear fabric that has been hand dyed by me in a beautiful shade of light gray.   His tail is silvery satin cording and he measures barely 3 inches to the top of his head.   Nathaniel is wearing his green suit which consists of dark green trousers, a light green and white pinstriped jacket, white shirt (just look at that teeny tiny collar!) and a green necktie.   He is wearing his gold toned wire rimmed glasses which are permanently attached so he cannot lose them.   He will bring his new seashell with him.
