Katie iversham
No. 52 in the Cobblestone Circle Series

Every child knows there are few holidays that can rival the pure
joy that is Halloween.   Besides all the parties and trick-or-treat candy,
the most delicious aspect of the holiday is the chance to
transform yourself through costume ~ well, at least for one
night.   Tonight is that night.

Little Katie Iversham, being pretty much your
typical 7 year old girl, is dressed as a princess
this year.   She’s been trying on her costume
every day since her mother finished sewing
it last week.   Katie just loves the way
the silk makes swishing sounds
as she twirls around and around.
Swirling and twirling are such fun.

But sometimes I do get a bit dizzy.
And that was just what she was doing in
the family room when all the trouble started.
Her brother had been talking to his girlfriend
on the phone and Katie had been twirling ~
stopping occasionally to make smooching
noises in his ear.   He hung up the phone
abruptly, glared at his sister
and teased "So you’re a princess for
Halloween ~ who ya gonna get
to be YOUR prince?"

That stopped Katie in mid-twirl.   She
hadn’t thought of that.   Did she need a prince?
In every story she’d ever read about
princesses, they were forever getting
into some sort of jam and always needed
a prince to save them.
What’s up with that?
Why can’t they figure out
how to get themselves out of the jam?
Who says you gotta have a prince?

I know what to do!
Boys always think they’re quicker and smarter
and more clever but Katie knows that isn’t
always true.   She may not be able to run as fast
as Jeremy Chickering, but she’s always the 1st to
solve the Math problems and puzzles in class.
And from what she remembers, most times the
solutions to the princess’ problems have nothing
to do with how fast you can run.

Mr. Iversham calls to his daughters, "Ready for trick-or-treat, girls?"
"In a minute," Katie replies and she runs to the kitchen
searching for tape, paper and a pencil.   A moment later she is
waiting at the door smiling broadly, so proud of her costume alteration.
"Shall we be off, Father?"

I can take care of myself!

Katie and her story are dedicated to fans of
Tatterhood and Other Tales.

Katie is made from cream long pile cashmere
mini bear fabric.   Her tail is peach satin cording and she
measures just over 2¾ inches to the top of her head.
Pale peach blush has been applied to her inner ears and cheeks.

Katie is wearing her princess costume which consists of a dress made
from beige dupioni silk and an overskirt of peach dupioni silk.
The hem is trimmed in a shimmering sheer crepon ruffled flounce.
The overskirt is adorned with five handmade ½ inch bows that have
seed bead accents in their centers.   Creamy seed beads were sewn
on her cuffs to serve as buttons and a gold toned filigree finding
was placed at her waist for a bit of sparkle.

Her filigree crown is permanently attached.
Her gold princess shoes have more seed beads accents
and she is wearing a very fancy pair of lace trimmed crepon undies.

The 1½ inch rigid plastic trick-or-treat bag is orange on the
outside and yellow on the inside.   The front shows a happy
jack-o-lantern face and on the back you will find Katie’s sign.

Also included are five handmade faux candy bars
which fit nicely into her treat bag.
They measure just over ¼ inch wide by 1 inch long.
