Irene Stevens
No. 54 in the Cobblestone Circle Series
Ever since she can remember, Irene has had a distinct dislike for the
color red. Even as a child she would throw tantrums if her
mother tried to dress her in it ~ and she simply could not understand
why all the other kids would grab for the red or cherry flavored things.
She herself preferred those pink and white licorice candies that
made that great sound when you shook the box.
But there is a lot of red in Cobblestone Circle
today. Everyone is all abuzz with activity
decorating their homes for the annual holiday
lights and display tour this evening. Irene is
determined to make her home a shining
example of how one can have a home
decorated for the holidays without
any of that particular color.
She has chosen to use the old-fashioned larger
lights that have been in her family for decades.
She likes the nostalgic feeling they stir in her ~
wonderful memories of snowy nights helping
her father decorate. She chuckles as she
remembers how he loved to crowd the
yard with every type of figurine.
But this year it is an exercise in simple elegance ~ a mixture of those old jewel toned lights with sparkles of silver everywhere. Even the weather is cooperating ~ an early fog has encased
everything in a dazzling coat of frosty ice.
Even Irene’s eyelashes and whiskers are sparkling! As she glances across the way at her
neighbors’ homes she is reminded that
not everyone shares her taste. And she
does a double take as the lights come on at the Shrewsbury house. Oh Irene always
knew Mimsy was a bit on the extravagant
side and is not surprised to see every shade
of red imaginable.
But WHAT have chile peppers and strawberries
got to do with Christmas!

Irene is made from pure white long pile cashmere
mini bear fabric. Her tail is white satin cording and she measures just 3 inches to the top of her head.
Irene is wearing her forest green ultrasuede hooded coat.
Crushed panne fur and white eyelet trim have been sewn
by hand at the hemline, cuffs and around the hood.
A silvery decorative crystal has been placed at her waist, both front and back.
And more silvery crystals have been sewn at both ends of her scarf.
To keep her warm she is also wearing her lace trimmed panties.
The flocked evergreen tree is a purchased item to which I have meticulously
added silvery balls and tiny glittered Christmas lights. The lights are purely
decorative ~ they do not actually light up. All these decorations have
been securely attached with both heavy thread and designer glue.
The tree is approximately 3¾ inches tall.
Per Irene’s instructions, there are no red lights on the tree.
