Gregory Brewster
No. 5 in the Cobblestone Circle Series
Gregory gets up from his desk and walks to the window to stretch and watch all the activity on Market Street as the folks from Cobblestone Circle carry on their daily business. People-watching is a nice balance to the mounds of paperwork that fill his days. He can’t help but chuckle at the exchange between Mr. and Mrs. Cobb when she emerges from Gallagher’s Grocery. It seems Mr. Cobb is never happy with what Mrs. Cobb will be making for his dinner ~ though Gregory is pretty sure Mr. Cobb only pretends to be ornery because he enjoys Mrs. Cobb’s reaction. Yes, love comes in many guises. It’s almost dismissal time for the school children and he knows little Gerry Larkins will duck into the Sweet Shoppe on his way home and spend every cent he has in his pockets. He must remember to talk with the lad about saving money and perhaps offer him a job after school. And what’s this? His heart skips a beat as he sees Miss Amelia Madison coming out of the sewing shop. He had his doubts when that Thistlewhitte woman opened that store, but now he sees there are advantages to having it right across the street.

Gregory is wearing his office clothes ~ suit pants, white shirt, wool vest and of course his favorite black tie. He comes with his silver-handled briefcase which was a gift from his sister for his last birthday. Being a bachelor, he had to sew on one of the buttons that had fallen off his vest only this morning. He did a fine job! But he did silently wonder if Mr. Cobb ever has to sew on his own buttons ~ and decides that in all probability Mr. Cobb did it exactly once ~and intentionally made such a mess of it that he never had to do it again!
