Colleen O’Dooley
No. 34 in the Cobblestone Circle Series

Colleen O’Dooley woke up with a stiff neck this morning.  She got it from holding her head in that odd position yesterday peering out her front window at the house down the street.   It had been a long time since she was treated to such a show and she willingly paid the price of a stiff neck to be able to see all the items coming out of that moving van.

Last year when Clara Kittiebittle moved in, Colleen was the first to know she was young and single and going to be the new school teacher.   It’s important to Colleen that she be the first to know all the comings and goings in the neighborhood.   So today she was up early tending to her guests’ breakfasts and baking something extra to take to the new neighbors ~ cookies to be exact ~ well, after seeing all those toys coming out of the van she knows there are children in this new family.

She didn’t actually see any children.   She was only able to catch a glimpse of the man telling the movers to be careful with his golf clubs. “Harrumpf,” she thinks to herself, “bet it won’t be long until he’s joining Greg Brewster, Chester Adams and George Taggert on the golf course ~ and at the Burgundy Turtle afterwards.”

She was relieved to finally see the couple from room 3 coming down the stairs with their suitcases.   And although Mrs. O’Dooley was pleased to hear they thought her Bed and Breakfast was one of the nicest they’ve ever found, she was anxious for them to get going so she could scoot down the street.

But just as she was bounding down her front walk, she suddenly turned around and went back inside.   You see it crossed her mind that where there are children, there are usually grandparents ~ grandparents who might need a place to stay when they come for a visit.   So she slipped one of her business cards from her foyer into the basket of cookies and headed back out at an even quicker pace.
