No. 29 in the Cobblestone Circle Series
It’s not that they dislike her. Truth be told she is probably one of the most pleasant people you will ever meet. Her dancing eyes are joined by a quick smile for anyone who greets her.
It’s just that folks would like to know a little more about her ~ and find out which of the rumors, if any, are true. Why does she live in such isolation? Why is she never seen without that large brass key? There are stories about a magical garden that is always in bloom ~ though no one can say they have ever seen it. Does the key unlock a secret gate to that garden? And why does she so deftly avoid answering these questions?
And what about those strange visitors that come to Cobblestone Circle looking for her? It’s always the same. A couple will arrive at the train station and find their way into town, asking for directions to Agnes’ home. Even though they appear travel weary they are never deterred by the fact that they must now walk the final leg of their journey ~ there are no roads that climb the long steep mountain path to her door. Then two days later they are seen boarding the train once again ~ carrying an exotic plant with blossoms of the most delicate shade of pink.
And it gets even stranger ~ they are always talking to the plant!!! Between all the cooing and giggling and yes, even tickling, there’s no mistaking the expressions pure contentment on the faces of these couples ~ they have just received something they’ve longed for ~ the most precious thing they’ll ever have.
